Journal 2- Karlyn Finnerty

My name is Karlyn Finnerty, I am a freshman at OSUM. I am majoring in Zoology. I live in a small town called Lebanon, and I have lived here in Ohio for half my life. I was born in Minnesota, and grew up there until I was 9, then moved to Ohio. I have loved animals my whole life, which is why my major is Zoology. I hope to one day be some sort of trainer for big cats. I was a dancer for 15 years of my life, I did all types of dance including jazz, tap, ballet, and lyrical. It is one of my favorite things to do. If I did not love animals as much as I do, I probably would've gone into to something like musical theater. I travel a lot with my family, mostly because of my mom and step-dad. I have been to 8 different counties outside the US.

  1. Karlyn, it's so neat to see you have Minnesota roots! Makes me homesick a bit, but we must be happy wherever we are, and I am. Really interesting that you are so into dance, and I wonder if you find a way to keep up with it even now going to school for Zooology? I used to know a lot of dancers at OSU Main Campus as the Dance Department is famous and when I was getting my MFA for Fiction and Poetry at OSU, we would attend their events and be blown away by the talent.

  2. Hi Karlyn! I think it is so interesting that you are majoring in Zoology! I like hearing the variety of majors that people go into here at Ohio State. I also did dance growing up, I danced for 14 years and also did a variety of styles! I am jealous of the amount of travel you have already been able to do! 8 countries is incredible for how young you are!

  3. Hey Karlyn, that business with training big cats sounds like some properly frightening work. I can tell just by the fact that you are brave enough to work with creatures so powerful that you must really be serious about your love for animals. Perhaps you could combine you two passions and put on performances featuring big cats that you've trained to dance.

  4. Hey Karlyn! It is so cool that you have been to 8 different countries! Wow! I am so jealous and want to hear more about those experiences! A major in zoology is really amazing, I also love animals and am excited to know they have someone as caring as you to take care and train them!
